The project assisted by <strong>Navigo<\/strong> Innovazione e Sviluppo della nautica centro servizi Toscano, also involves the participation of the Scuola Superiore Sant\u2019Anna in Pisa and the Prato campus of Florence University.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The drones, remote-controlled naval surface vessels, will be constructed at the Effebi plant in Avenza (MS).<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration between Meccano Engineering Srl (naval, merchant and military design) and\u00a0 Ids (engineering of technologically complex systems) for the design of these marine drones, will produce the first <strong>18-metre vessel<\/strong>, a unique<strong> and unprecedented modular model. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe product will be modular and highly technological\u201d, explains Katia Balducci , Managing Director at Effebi, \u201cthis means that with few adjustments it can be used for various purposes; from the assistance and rescue of immigrants at sea to the monitoring of environmental conditions\u201d. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The idea of creating a modular marine drone stems from reflecting on the needs of a unit able to cover a number of tasks, from sea rescue and hydrographic research to the monitoring of environmental conditions. To date, in fact, these tasks are covered by various naval units, not just one; with the marine drone project, a number of uses will be combined in one single system.<\/p>\n<p>Another distinctive characteristic of these drones, is their use in the absence of on-board personnel (unmanned vehicles) by means of an automatic pilot which will take control of the wheel house; it can also host other personnel on-board to command in traditional style, availing of priority commands over any instruction coming from a distance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research<\/strong> and <strong>innovation<\/strong> are, therefore, the approach adopted to meet the challenge of the market, distinctive elements of 2016 which will continue to be further developed in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Headquartered in Tuscany, Italy, Effebi has been run by the Balducci family since 1983. Today, it is an undisputed global name in the shipping sector, leading the field in the processing of fiberglass and composite materials using advanced technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The company specialises in 15-50 metre vessels, with the Effebi brand representing the commercial and patrol craft sector and the renowned Mangusta, Mangusta Gransport and Mangusta Oceano brand producing luxury maxi open and displacement yachts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Effebi operates in various facilities in Massarosa, Massa and Carrara-Avenza areas, covering a total surface <strong>area for production of around 72.500 square metres<\/strong> (in and outdoors). All production facilities are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and systems which ensure products are always of the <strong>highest quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to retain the ethics of a family business, and that means pursuing expansion step-by-step. <strong>Everything is done in-house<\/strong>, from design to composite lamination and fitting out the electrical system. It is important we remain streamlined, organic and versatile, so we can satisfy the individual requirements of different clients.\u201d says Katia Balducci.
