As a result of the tender issued by Guardia di Finanza (the Italian Tax Police) for the construction of a Coastal Patrol Vessel – co-financed by the EU as part of the Internal Security Fund, under the coordination of FRONTEX, The European Border and Coast Guard Agency – , Effebi Spa has secured the contract for the delivery of a fast coastal patrol vessel, including an option for the purchaser to buy 6 more crafts.
Thanks to the great experience gained starting as early as in the 1980s, with a wide portfolio of composite material crafts up to 50 meters in length, the Effebi Shipyard has developed a project for the construction of a 44-meter-long, approx. 8.60-meter-wide CPV (Coastal Patrol Vessel). Powered by a water-jet propulsion and four MTU16V2000M96L engines, 1939kW@2450 rpm each, this craft will reach a maximum speed of 40 knots and a range of up to 1,500 nautical miles, equal to around 48 consecutive hours at cruising speed, thereby allowing for effective patrolling in the Mediterranean Sea. The patrol vessel will have a crew of 23 people and will be able to carry up to 150 people during rescue operations as well as to perform firefighting operations. It will be equipped with a fast-launching service boat for military and rescue operations, ensuring maximum speed and efficiency.
The contract value for the first hull is €12.7 million, while the option for the following 6 units amounts to €76.3 million.
“We will work on this project with our Company’s traditional commitment and building skills”, proudly states Effebi Spa’s Managing Director Katia Balducci.
The project for the Italian Tax Police will be carried out in parallel with the SAND project – which started back in 2016 and is now ongoing – for the construction of a marine drone, a joint program involving Effebi Spa, Meccano Engineering Spa, Ids Ingegneria dei sistemi Spa and co-financed by the Tuscany Regional Council.
This highly technological device will be suitable, following some minor changes, for a wide range of applications, from the support and rescue of migrants at sea to the monitoring of environmental conditions.
Cooperation is also in place with the Italian Register of Shipping, who will develop a dedicated set of regulations for unmanned crafts.
